IGNITE GLOBAL PERCUSSION CULTURAL

 ENRICHMENT PROGRAM 

( Diversity, Respect, Unity Through Music)

 


 IGNITE IMPACT will focus on students training through creating, performing, responding and connecting the artistic experience that will reflect their own voices.

It will be a first part of  students training in authentic non-Western musical instruments to help IGNITE hidden artistic and other skills of students, and to help them appreciate multicultural Southern Nevada especially Las Vegas’s diverse population and variety of music.

Students will to learn academic, artistic and social skills necessary to master percussion performance and basic instructions as well as music appreciation. 

The class will continue to explore the 4 main activities they have been studying the school year: Literacy, Music Critique and Appreciation, Media

 Studies and Performing Arts.

1. LITERACY.

In the Literacy component, students will be encouraged to continue to learn how to do research into selected topics  relevant to Global Music making. They will have the opportunity to express themselves through writing, reading and discussing ideas and topics. 

2. CULTURAL AND MUSIC CRITIQUE AND APPRECIATION

In the Music Critique and Appreciation component, students will watch videos and listen to songs to for opportunities to listen, explain the contents and cultural contexts, compare notes, write about them and have healthy discussions.

3. SOCIAL SKILLS

Students will also be given opportunities to learn basic things about other cultures as well as intermediary studies about Africa, documenting their journey through photography, audio and video recordings for classroom discussion.

4. PERFORMING ARTS

In the performing arts component, students will continue to learn how to do rhythm analysis and perform selected  complex African traditional rhythms performing them on authentic traditional as well as contemporary instruments, investigating form and structure.  

This component of the  project is aimed at enhancing their self-esteem, self -worth and leadership skills.   To prepare students for the culminating and other school events, they will continue to study stagecraft and other performance techniques necessary for quality engaging presentation on any platform.

 

EVALUATION:

1.     Students will be given the opportunity to do daily activity reflections.

2.     Students will be divided into groups to work with themselves for assessment

3.     Students will engage in friendly classroom contests with appropriate rewards.

4.     Supervisors/ School Administration VIP Preparatory Performance

5.     Culminating Events to showcase students’ achievements, proficiencies and mastery of skills- Academic/artistic and social skills
